Valentine’s Day is approaching, and it may be strange to hear the simplest yet complex, most beautiful definition of “love” over the commercialized marketing pitches which promote romantic gestures–chocolates in heart-shaped boxes, plush animals, balloons, roses.
This former definition of love is quiet yet bold. This definition of love doesn’t come from the world. It comes from God, and it encompasses every day of the year and everyday of our lives into eternity. This love was personified in Jesus Christ. God loves us so much that He gave His only begotten Son over to die for us while we were yet sinners. His love is beyond the romantic love of Valentine’s Day in that it is sacrificial and unconditional.
So while we eagerly look forward to Valentine’s Day on February 14th, let us look forward to the abounding and unmatched love of Christ! God pursues us and wooes us each and everyday to draw closer in an intimate relationship with Him! Let us not neglect His divine courtship. Our spouse can only fill a small space in our hearts, but when we allow Christ to fill it, that space enlarges. Thus, our capacity to give and receive love also enlarges! I pray spouses will be given grace and understanding so they will cultivate true love that doesn’t wait until Valentine’s Day to be expressed.
Let’s live a lifetime of love with our spouses and not depend on a “day of love” to demonstrate our love to them. Amen ♥
