Treasure By My Husband’s Side (w/Prayer)

“… but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. 21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” “Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto to the Lord.” “Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. ” “… and the wife see that she reverence her husband.”
~ Genesis 2: 20-23. Ephesians 5: 22, 24, 33, KJV ~
How is your walk with your husband? I pray it is such a peaceful and loving walk that will be altogether more worthy because you have honored your calling as his help meet. When you walked down the aisle in your wedding gown and said “I do” to your husband, you became the woman God created to be his helper.
You are the treasure by your husband’s side and your marriage was a declaration such as Adam’s in Genesis 2: 23. “This woman is mine and so much a part of my very being that we are one-flesh!” Amen! It is necessary for us wives to honor the plan God has for us in our marriages. He calls our husbands to lead, and we have to do our part in tracing His heart out in the sand of our marriages. We have to do our parts, which means that we must submit.
In order to walk by our husbands’ sides, we have to fall in line with what God instructs us to do. There is no way around it–submission. To submit doesn’t mean we become mindless pets that offer obeisance to our husbands. Godly submission is simply acknowledging the power of a higher authority. God has granted every husband authority over his wife. It is his responsibility. It is our responsibility to acknowledge their headship and, thus, acknowledge and honor God. When a wife refuses to yield to her husband’s leadership (aside from sinful requests), she is, in all actuality, refusing to obey God’s authority. If a wife won’t respect her husband or walk by his side, how can she be his helper?
God does not expect a wife to stand mindlessly by her husband’s side. Let’s break down the meaning of the word “help meet” in order to get a better understanding of her role. In Hebrew, help meet translates to “ezer kenegdo”. In Hebrew, “ezer” means help, and “kenegdo” means “opposite to him” or “corresponding to him” (scottwoodward . org). According to Biblehub, the term “ezer” is used various times in the Bible in reference to the help provided by God. God’s help would reflect his power and might.
Think about it!
Any help that God would appoint to a man would be competent and more than sufficient to meet his needs!
As the helper that God has appointed to your husband, He already knows that you are different from him. You may notice that you and your husband are opposites and mistakenly feel that was a mistake. God doesn’t make any mistakes. You were created to complement who he is, and you have strengths that correspond to his weaknesses. To complement your husband means that you make him and his life better or more complete. You were made to be your husbands’ partner and trusted companion who stands by his side. God knew that you would be just as intelligent, if not more brilliant, than your husband. God knew that you would be that strong, capable woman who is every bit your husband’s equal.
He calls us to watch our husbands’ backs and reverence them! To reverence your husband means that you show a deep respect for him. That means that as his help meet, you hold him in high esteem and acknowledge that he is the head and has the God-given authority to lead you. Ultimately, your honor for your husband reflects a deeper honor, which is the honor that you have for God when you submit unto him. God does not expect perfection. He just wants us to seek Him to guide us. Let’s trust Him to show us how to be the help meets our husbands need.
~Prayer~
Dear God,
Thank You for creating me to be my husband’s help meet. Thank you for calling me to be the treasure by his side who he was created to lovingly lead. Lord, if there is any way about me that is rebellious or disrespects my husband, show me how to replace that behavior with those characteristics of the Proverbs 31 woman.
Help me to be a better wife and to be the wife who makes my husband’s life better just by me being at his side. Help us to be a better team and not compete against one another in any way. Let my husband rise up and call me a blessing in his life.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
