Prayer for When Respecting Your Husband is Difficult

Lord God, this prayer is on behalf of myself and other wives who find it difficult to respect their husbands. Lord, You have commanded us to respect our husbands. To revere them and esteem them highly*. It is easy to respect our husbands when they love us and lead us the way that You have instructed them to do. But Father how can a wife respect her husband who is sinning against her and intentionally disrespecting her–causing her pain? There are so many unique situations in our marriages that just as our fingerprints, no two are alike. But You know every detail of what is going on in the hearts of spouses. Father, I know I’m not saying anything You don’t already know. Please help us to respect our husbands as unto You, because it may be difficult for us to see past their conduct that causes us pain or suffering.
Lord, for the wives with husbands who do not cherish them– whose disrespectful, sinful conduct is proving to be a stumbling block–please give the grace and strength to have a righteous response. Father, help us to be wives who welcome our husband’s advice and counsel that is not sin for Your Word says: “Where there is strife, there is pride, but wisdom is found in those who take advice” (Proverbs 13:10).
Lord, I want to do all that You ask me to do. I need Your help to see past my husband’s sins so that I can by faith see him as You do and thus show him the proper respect.
Help us to weigh our responses by Your Word and not by what we feel they deserve because truly You never give us what we deserve. Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to die for us, while we were yet sinners to redeem us from death!!!** Lord, Thank You for mercy! Help us to cast our concerns to You, O Lord, so that we can get out of Your way of taking care of our husbands’ hearts.
Lord, I repent of being a silent judge. I confess that I have not wanted to forgive and have refused respect that was DUE BECAUSE YOU SAID SO, because I felt it was not DESERVED. Forgive us Father, and lead us to respect our husbands and behold their hearts with the reverence that comes from us seeing them–not through our pain, feelings of rejection–through the love of Jesus. Father, we cannot do this without You. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit and may we remain sensitive to His leadings. Lord, I ask if there’s any heart issues we have or our husbands have that You will convict us and cleanse us so we can love and respect each other according to Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
*Ephesians 5:33, ~
” this provides a good picture of how each husband is to treat his wife, loving himself in loving her, and how each wife is to honor her husband.”
**Romans 5:8~
” But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
