Prayer for Intimacy

This winter has been especially hard. My husband and I have felt as if the walls of our cramped apartment were closing in on us. In perfect timing, God answered our prayers for a larger home that also provides him and me our own getaway. Yes, we need some privacy from our children. God blessed us with the perfect home for our family’s needs. My husband and I have an entire level of the house all to ourselves with a study/family room and bedroom with adjoining private bathroom. THANK YOU JESUS!  We have been praying for a sanctuary of our own because we have been in dire need of our own space to be free and intimate. It would seem logical to think that because our present living quarters are so tight that my husband and I would be enjoying a wonderful intimacy. But we lack privacy with an ill-fitted bedroom door that won’t fully close and a three-year old son who busts open the door as if he’s a firefighter ready to extinguish a fire.
When I mention “intimacy”, I’m not just talking about sex. It’s so much more. It’s a quiet, extravagant, unfolding of me and my husband–our souls connecting into each other spiritually, physically, and emotionally. It’s as breathtaking as watching a tropical flower open via time lapse technology.  It’s us breathing easy, laughing breathlessly between kisses and silent embraces where we don’t speak but understand and enjoy peace like Summer’s first ice cream cone. Intimacy is time together when we are cognizant and blissfully aware our God is with us a silent audience rooting for our love and sharing His glory with our human existence. My prayer for today is on intimacy. Let’s pray.
Dear Lord, bless every husband and wife with larger spaces inside our hearts to accommodate love. I ask that barriers to intimacy be removed. Thank You Lord that our intimate time can be a reflection of our closeness with You. Thank You Lord that Your Holy Spirit guides us into truth.
Help us be honest, open, understanding, interested, curious, and unabashedly willing to seek out our spouse’s pleasure whether it be by a hug, holding hands, with gifts, with lovemaking, or reading a devotion together. Lord, give us a desire to seek to draw close to our beloved. Give us ideas so we can create times of closeness and intimate traditions that we plan regularly so our relationship does not become stale. May we be blessed with the ability to ENJOY our spouses.
Thank You for the gift of marriage Father. May our moments of intimacy become a way of life and a testimony of our relationship with Jesus- -all to Your glory!! In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
