Thirsting for Your Spouse

Do you remember the first time you tasted a Coca-Cola? Think about that first swig that filled your mouth with the taste of sweet, sparkling bubbles! The more you drank it, you created more of a craving to drink it because the sweet excitement fizzing up on your tastebuds made you forget just how thirsty you were!

When I thought about the sexual appetite that should exist between a husband and his wife, the Holy Spirit showed me that it can exist as a thirst between them. I thought of how refreshing Coca-Cola is and how cold and fresh they are when served as fountain drinks! Even more refreshment! God brought to my mind how a man’s sexual organ is like a fountain, and his wife is like a cistern/reservoir that he can pour his love and life into.

He is only to give his wife streams of pleasure. He should only satisfy his wife’s thirst because if he allows other women to be satisfied with his “fountain” , he will become like a Coca-Cola that is watered down. No good!!! A man who cheats on his wife does them both a great disservice as he dilutes himself and their love. It’s such a disappointment when you reach for a Coca-Cola, unscrew the top, hear a hiss that lets you know it’s still fresh; but when you take a swallow, the Coca-Cola has a watered down taste! There’s almost nothing worse than for a wife to discover that her husband is not what he should be because he has dispersed or spread himself around for other women to enjoy. When you want fresh, you don’t want stale. No wife wants to find her husband has been unfaithful!  That is a bitter, polluted taste that is repulsive and dishonors her. It can be difficult for her to desire his fountain after that! So, men, DO NOT take your wife for granted. Keep your fountains pure and udefiled by thirsty immoral women.

Lord, I just want to pray for all of the married couples under Your Holy covenant to develop a thirst for each other that honors You and brings back the sparkle within their marriage beds. Lord, I pray every husband will reserve their fountains only for their wives; and, Lord, heal those whose fountains are broken and diluted because we know that You did not come to give us a watered down version of heaven, but You came that we might have life more abundantly and enjoy its fullness in You. (John 10:10*) So let our husbands commit to do the same! Lord, give husbands the wisdom and strength to resist the thirsty women who try to tempt them to break their covenant of marriage by cheating. I ask that their desire, attraction and admiration for their wives will increase and prosper beyond their expectations. Let every wife be refreshed and satisfied by her own husband so that her thirst for him grows in a manner that glorifies You Lord. Let their thirst for each other be so life and love-affirming that no one else will do! In Jesus’ name, Amen!

Study these three versions of Proverbs 5:15-20, NIV, AMP,and MSG respectively. I love how creative our God is and how He explains everything we need to know. God bless!

NIV~ “Drink water from your own cistern,

running water from your own well.

16 Should your springs overflow in the streets,

your streams of water in the public squares?

17 Let them be yours alone,

never to be shared with strangers.

18 May your fountain be blessed,

and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth.

19 A loving doe, a graceful deer—

may her breasts satisfy you always,

may you ever be intoxicated with her love.

20 Why, my son, be intoxicated with another man’s wife?

Why embrace the bosom of a wayward woman?”

AMP~ “15 [a]Drink waters out of your own cistern [of a pure marriage relationship], and fresh running waters out of your own well.

16 Should your offspring be dispersed abroad as water brooks in the streets?

17 [Confine yourself to your own wife] let your children be for you alone, and not the children of strangers with you.

18 Let your fountain [of human life] be blessed [with the rewards of fidelity], and rejoice in the wife of your youth.

19 Let her be as the loving hind and pleasant doe [tender, gentle, attractive]—let her bosom satisfy you at all times, and always be transported with delight in her love.

20 Why should you, my son, be infatuated with a loose woman, embrace the bosom of an outsider, and go astray?”

MSG~ “Do you know the saying, “Drink from your own rain barrel,

draw water from your own spring-fed well”?

It’s true. Otherwise, you may one day come home

and find your barrel empty and your well polluted.

17-20 Your spring water is for you and you only,

not to be passed around among strangers.

Bless your fresh-flowing fountain!

Enjoy the wife you married as a young man!

Lovely as an angel, beautiful as a rose—

don’t ever quit taking delight in her body.

Never take her love for granted!

Why would you trade enduring intimacies for cheap thrills with a whore?

for dalliance with a promiscuous stranger?”

*John 10:10~”The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life..
