“Charting the Course to Christ”

3 Amos 3:3 NLT~ “3 Can two people walk together
without agreeing on the direction?”
Matthew 18:19 NLT~ “19 Again I tell you this: If two of you agree on earth about anything you pray for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven.”

Marriage is an arduous, exciting journey that a husband and wife vow to trek for the duration of their lives. The choices they make determine whether their journey is a trip plotted with heavenly vision or a haphazard trip that meanders aimlessly. God is the master cartographer and lovingly navigates every marriage with perfect latitudinal and longitudinal reference points in His Scriptures. If couples are faithful and remain obedient to the course, the Holy Spirit acts as their compass to point them in Christ’s direction. At times, they may grow weary. It may seem like they will never reach Christ; but they must endure and press on to fulfill the mission to glorify the heavenly Father on an earthly scale. The scale of a marriage is 1:3 or 1:1. Marriage equals one man and one woman in covenant union with God.

In order for a marriage to be a success, couples must resolve to stay true to God’s course, no matter what they face. They will undoubtedly encounter storms, treacherous obstacles, and enemies who attempt to separate and harm them. They must, however, stick together as an inseparable team and trudge onward as one-flesh to their destination to the center of Christ. In order to reach Christ-centeredness, they must conscientiously:
~Study their map (their Bible).
~Follow the sensitive leadings of the compass’ needle (Holy Spirit).
~Put “self” aside and look out for one another’s safety and well-being.
~Wear the proper attire. They must put on love and the full armor of God.
~(Most importantly) agree to walk together in harmony in the same direction to follow the course that God provides them.

Colossians 3:14 NLT~ “14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.”

Ephesians 6:10-18 NLT~ “10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.
16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”

As long as a couple decides to follow God’s course in their marriage, they won’t get lost in uncharted territory. If they fail to study the map (their Bible) and cannot agree to walk together on the same paths, they may become separated from one another. If this occurs, vagrants may mistake them to be vagabonds rather than members of a God-ordained, elite team. They may become further disoriented about the purpose of their journey and begin to travel in circles–to their despair– and revisit the same milestones over and over again to no avail.
God doesn’t want anyone to experience defeat in their marriage! He is faithful to provide everything that is needed to victoriously reach the destination He so lovingly mapped out in His Word! We have to trust that God knows the best routes to lead us in our marriage so we don’t bypass the blessed landscapes that await those who treasure His beautiful cartography.

Will you stay on the course to Christ or strike out on your own path?

Blessings and
Happy travels! 😀

I spent the first last seven years of my marriage off track, on my own course. It almost destroyed my marriage. But thank God that He redeems not only people, but marriages as well! The enemy shoots those deadly arrows, and most of the time they are in the form of lies in our minds. I battle these daily but I am on the right course and my husband and I are healthier and happier than we have ever been before.

Valuable message. I love how you’ve outlined the 5 points on which to focus, and then drew a picture of what would happen if we don’t focus. Disoriented in our purpose… and travelling in circles.
